Fire Protection District

Lake County Fire Protection District's mission is to protect all the citizens within the district from injury and loss due to natural and man-made emergencies and disasters.

This will be accomplished by providing highly trained and equipped emergency personnel to respond to incidents of fire, flood, chemical release and medical emergencies within three minutes after notification.

The Lake County Fire Protection District provides fire, rescue, Hazmat, and EMS services and transportation which covers 165 square miles and responds to over 5,300 calls for service. Our District’s average population ranges from 16,500 to over 50,000 during the summer tourist season. Lake County Fire is the result from the consolidation of Lower Lake Fire Protection District and Lakeshore Fire Protection District in 2001. We have seen several major changes in our roles and responsibilities to our community, such as the increase in EMS and trying to maintain a customer-based service.

Our goals and objectives are to meet, exceed and sustain the community’s needs to our operations for future challenges, changes and demands that fact our District. We are continually seeking more efficient ways to provide and expand our level of services to our community. These services range from public assists, medical emergencies, local transports, fire/rescue operations, fire prevention for children and elderly citizens, all hazard preparedness, paramedic internships, and public and private relationships.

Fire Protection District Objectives

  1. Prevent the loss of life and reduce property damage due to the fire through public education, code enforcement, and inspection services.

  2. Control fires which occur, and rescue persons endangered by fire by maintaining a well trained and equipped fire fighting force.

  3. Provide emergency medical services to all areas of the Lake County Fire Protection District.

  4. Respond to man-made and/or natural disasters, such as earthquakes, storms, flood, hazardous materials incidents and other life-threatening situation and provide direction, control containment and hazard mitigation within the resources of the Lake County Fire Protection District.

  5. Assist in the maintenance of a stable economy as related to the impact of a fire or other disasters upon the revenue sources of the Lake County Fire Protection District.

  6. Meet the fire district objectives in the most efficient and economical manner.

  7. Support a stimulating, challenging, and enjoyable work atmosphere, which encourages personal growth for all members of the fire district assigned to carry out the fire protection objectives.

  8. Provide a continuous assessment of the community’s fire protection needs and the degree to which they are met by the current fire protection system.
